We use Reference 4 for sharing a common monitoring reference in mixing classes through loudspeakers and through headphones in all of the different studios on campus. It is also invaluable in the personal bedroom studios of the students. We can now focus much more on the music and aesthetics while teaching music mixing instead of discussing why are we listening to "this or that," guessing "what might have been the reason for such frequency unbalances." The curves are pretty straightforward to show this. Reference 4 is a simple to use and an affordable tool for students who are mixing audio in less than ideal monitoring environments It makes different mixing environments monitoring closer to each other. This is an enormous time-saver.
