The SoundID Tools app, developed with Sonarworks and approved by Dolby, is available now on app stores

Immersive audio is only as powerful as the monitoring chain behind it — and for Dolby Atmos creators, that chain now includes personalized Dolby Atmos headphone monitoring, right in your pocket.

Today, SoundID Tools, built by Sonarworks in collaboration with Dolby, is available on the App Store and Google Play. The app brings Dolby Atmos Personalization directly to creators’ hands, enabling a more accurate and consistent headphone monitoring experience for immersive mixes. It is free to download and free to use.

Personalization at the Core of Immersive Creativity

Dolby Atmos gives creators the ability to place and move sound in three dimensions — a spatial canvas that demands equally precise monitoring. What SoundID Tools introduces is the next dimension of that precision: personalization based on each creator’s unique physical characteristics.

The app uses your phone’s camera to capture your head and ears, then applies Dolby’s technology to generate a Dolby Headphone Personalization profile — a file calibrated to how you specifically perceive spatial audio. No two creators hear a soundstage the same way. This profile accounts for that.

The result is headphone monitoring that more faithfully represents the immersive soundstage the creator intends, bringing greater spatial and timbral accuracy to every Dolby Atmos mix made on headphones.

“Every creator’s physical characteristics are unique, which affects how they experience immersive audio over headphones. By combining Dolby’s technology with Sonarworks’ calibration expertise, the app enables more accurate Dolby Atmos monitoring. We are excited to work with them, and our DAW partners, to bring advanced headphone experiences to Dolby Atmos creators everywhere.” — David Gould, Sr. Director of Content Creation and Distribution, Dolby Laboratories

How Dolby Atmos Personalization Works

Getting your personalized profile takes a few minutes and requires nothing beyond your phone.

Download the free SoundID Tools app and follow the in-app instructions to scan your head and ears using your phone’s front-facing camera. The app generates a personalized headphone profile file, which you transfer to your computer and load into your Dolby Atmos rendering tools.

Once loaded, you’ll notice the difference where it matters most: direction, distance, and height in your headphone mix become more accurately perceived, giving you greater confidence that your spatial decisions will translate.

What you get with Dolby Headphone Personalization:

  • Improved spatial accuracy, tonal clarity, and balance
  • More reliable immersive mix checking on headphones
  • Greater consistency across playback systems
  • A monitoring baseline that travels with you — studio or remote
