Term: Comb-filter

« Back to Glossary Index

A comb-filter effect is created when an audio signal is combined with a time-delayed version of itself. The effect of a comb filter is a regularly-spaced series of notches and peaks in the frequency response of the original signal, resembling the teeth of a comb. Comb filtering can be caused by acoustic or electronic delays, such as mic placement, acoustic reflections, or digital latency.
