Term: Lossless encoding

Data compression for audio that does not lose any audio quality when its file size is reduced. A lossless compressed file may only take up 50% of the original file size, but it can be decompressed back into a perfect copy of the original audio data. Lossless file formats include FLAC and ALAC.
