Term: Coloration

« Back to Glossary Index

Coloration in audio refers to changing the characteristics of an audio signal. The signal is no longer pure but has been changed in some way. Audio gear is often chosen to impart certain colorations or to avoid coloration. When designing audio gear, transformers, tubes, tape, and transistors are often chosen for their specific colorations.
