Term: C-Weighting Filter

« Back to Glossary Index

A C-weighting filter produces an SPL measurement that reflects human sensitivity to audio frequencies between 80 and 90 dB SPL. The filter rolls off extreme lows and highs above 10 kHz to accurately reflect the frequency sensitivity of human hearing and is used to measure and calibrate playback systems. C-weighting more accurately reflects bass levels than the highly-filtered A-weighting, which is often used to measure noise levels.
