Term: Bass Reflex Speaker

« Back to Glossary Index

A bass reflex speaker uses an enclosure with a vent hole, or port tube, which enables sound from the rear side of the woofer to exit the cabinet. The port extends the low-frequency response of the speaker compared to the same speaker in a sealed cabinet. A properly tuned port limits the speaker’s movement at certain low frequencies, which may lower distortion at low frequencies.
